A lifelong resident of Winnipeg, David graduated from the University of Manitoba Faculty of Law in 1968, after obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1965. He was called to the Manitoba Bar in 1969, and articled to W. Scott Wright, Q.C. (later Mr. Justice Wright of the Manitoba Court of Queen’s Bench). He was also called to the Bar of Saskatchewan in 1985, but does not maintain that call as a result of interprovincial protocols subsequently established.

From inception, he has practised primarily in insurance and construction law, with emphasis on professional liability, including architects, engineers, land surveyors, chartered accountants, healthcare providers, real estate agents/brokers and insurance agents/brokers. He also has considerable experience in other insurance matters, including property, casualty, medical and general products liability, builders’ risk, surety, sports and amusement, and personal injury and wrongful dismissal, professional discipline and self-regulatory administrative law. David has acted for insurers and their insureds, and is Chief Agent in Manitoba for several insurance companies. He has represented clients at all court levels, including the Supreme Court of Canada. David was a part-time judge of the Provincial Court of Manitoba from 1977 to March 1998. He has lectured on insurance and professional liability matters, and has published on subjects of professional liability and discipline and construction law. David serves as an arbitrator in insurance, commercial, construction and labour disputes, and is a Charter Fellow of the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers.
